Middle schoolers argue, it is part of what they are. But it is a teaching opportunity:
- To teach them in this, reframe the situation for them;
- Affirm their identity -state the obvious if you need to:
- Encourage them;
But always remember to pick your battles.
We are in a time of social upheaval, so identity is critically important.
Narrative requires hearing, listening, responding, for it to be a narrative.
Teach children how they and their thoughts/feelings tie into a greater fabric of communication/family/identity
Honor conveys something of value that is passed from group to individual, and individual to group.
Communication= Me, thee, we. When you arrive at we, then you have communicated.
