HSHSP Ep 77: Apologetics: Important Life Preparation for Teens
What is Apologetics and WHY is it important life preparation for teens?
There is research that shows that 2 out of 3 young people that have been raised in Christian homes will leave the faith by the time they are 20 years old!
Apologetics is the “business of examining and understanding the reasons for the Christian faith”. Our teens need to understand their faith historically and objectively. Apologetics looks at the “provable facts” of Scripture. It encompasses:
- Archeology
- Science
- Cultural Anthropology
Apologetics “removes roadblocks to faith”!
This is important because as teens mature developmentally (see metacognition in Human Development), many begin to question the important areas of their lives- including their faith. This is not a bad thing! In order for them to make their faith their own, they need to ask questions. Unfortunately for many teens, they don’t find answers to their questions and in frustration, they leave the religion of their childhood.
Join Sabrina for a vulnerable and powerful interview with Dr. Gerald R. Culley, Professor Emeritus of Classics at University of Delaware. Dr. Culley is a “homeschool grandfather” (he is the father of 7SistersHomeschool.com’s Sabrina and Allison). His mission in life is to give homeschool highschoolers a solid foundation in Apologetics to help them wrestle with deep questions!
Dr. Culley has developed a FREE Apologetics curriculum that is simple, no-prep, no-background-needed, interesting! These downloadable lessons are video ppts with Dr. Culley’s narration and handouts. They have been a favorite course for our 7Sisters teens! Download them for YOUR homeschool highschoolers!
