Our guest today is Brian Perry – Brian is a dedicated Christian, husband, and father of seven. With a passion for coaching, Brian coaches soccer and serves as a counselor at a church camp for kids. He is also an active obstacle course racer and runs his own painting and pressure-washing business. Brian Teaches life skills to kids through his website (these16things.com), which covers 16 skills not typically taught in schools. The website is accompanied by an ebook, 16 Things to Teach Kids That Schools Won’t, that provides further resources and insights.

Brian and Luke Grim have created the website and videos you can access for free. Luke is a Christian, husband, father of eight, and retired U.S. Army. He spends his time teaching these topics to his kids and teaches 12th-grade government. He coaches youth soccer, serves as a counselor at a church camp for kids, and leads a men’s group and a small group through his church. He is also a partner in the website these16things.com.

The focus of today’s show is the idea of having intentional conversations with your children in order to teach life skills. This came about after Brian heard a podcast on the topic of teaching life skills and the importance of this in your home. These conversations can come naturally from situations in your home to taking the initiative to teach your children the importance of budget and balancing a checkbook account. Brian believes this mission [of having intentional conversations] is a good idea because kids are being taught fewer life skills than ever and are ill-prepared to live on their own when they become adults.
