This week’s podcast is such a sweet episode. However, you will definitely want to grab your journal and a box of tissues before you hit play. Five years ago, I had the privilege of meeting Debbie Strayer at the Southeast Homeschool Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. We had just released our book, The Homegrown Preschooler and were excited to share it with the homeschooling community. Debbie, the co-founder of the magazine, Homeschooling Today was a speaker at the 2013 conference. As the conference was winding down, Debbie stopped by our booth and shared encouraging thoughts about our business and our book. I was so appreciative of the lovely words she shared with me that evening. I said goodbye to Debbie and watched her exit the vendor hall. On my drive home, I pondered my conversation with Debbie and looked forward to developing a friendship with her. Unfortunately, that would not be possible. The following morning, I was shocked to hear the tragic news that Debbie Strayer had passed away in her sleep.
A couple of years later, I met the lovely daughter of Debbie Strayer, Ashley Wiggers. Ashely and her husband chose to carry on her mom’s legacy by running the magazine and working with Geo Matters, the company that published her mom’s curriculum. We talk about all of this and so much more in today’s episode. Ashley shares stories of her mom and the lessons she learned growing up in a homeschooling family. I know you are going to want to take notes, so make sure you are ready to write as you listen to this one.
Have a great week!
