The statistics say it all, 1 in 5 children will be sexually abused before the age 18. A child is much more likely to be abused by a trusted adult than a stranger. We teach our kids fire safety. We teach them about water safety. We teach them about traffic safety. Somehow the conversation about personal safety from sexual abuse often gets skipped.
Join us on this episode as we interview Justin and Lindsey Holcomb. The Holcombs have recently authored a new book called God Made All of Me – A Book To Help Children Protect Their Bodies. We talk through the topic of sexual abuse. We use real words and talk through a few tips to prevent your children from becoming victims of sexual abuse. We even address the issue of shame and guilt by parents who feel they missed having this conversation with their kids. Join us for an honest discussion.

I am one of those adults you talk about at the end. I think the podcast was straight on. Teaching children real words prepares them to talk with knowledge. As a child, I knew something was off but didn’t have any language to describe/explain. Even in retrospect much is blurry emotions that because I didn’t understand what was happening in the scope of language at the time. As an adult I have received healing through forgiveness. What shocked me most was to find out that I had unforgiveness toward my parent who made choices that left me exposed. While I still don’t understand. I have offered forgiveness from my own heart (not even verbally since she wouldn’t understand where I am even coming from.) Forgiveness really is about releasing us from the chains/pains it is not necessarily for the persons that have hurt us. This podcasts will hopefully remove the blinders of naivety and provide wisdom to parents and maybe release for a victim. Thanks for tackling the hard topics and wrapping them all in grace!
Thanks for reaching out to us Sarah! This has been a powerful episode for a lot of our listeners. We hope this smashes naivety for many in the homeschool world. We need to show wisdom and not bury our heads on this one. – Fletch
