Show Notes

Easter is often hectic for Christian families. Church services and special events enrich our faith and family get-togethers fill our joy tank, but they leave little time to dig into God’s Word with our kiddos.

If you weren’t able to go through the Holy Week story in the Gospels last week, do it this week. It’s not too late. If you’ve already done that, this is a great week to teach your children what happened next … after Easter!

Doubting Thomas

Jesus answered Doubting Thomas’ faith Questions – apologetics.

Road to Emmaus

Jesus appears to 2 of his disciples on the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35) – Emmaus Walk.

Jesus Reinstates Peter

Jesus reinstates Peter (go over the story of Peter’s denial Luke 22:31-34). Jesus makes him breakfast & brings him back John 21:15-21) – Fish Fry.

Great Commission

The Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20 & Mark 16:14-20) & The Plan & Priority of Extending His Kingdom (Acts 1:8) – Suitcase Craft.

Wait for the Holy Spirit

Jesus tells them to wait for the Holy Spirit. Prayer & Fasting.

Ascension

Jesus’ Ascension (Mark 16:19-20 & Luke 24:51-53 & Acts 1:9-11)

Power of the Resurrection

Lamb Blood & Snake Venom

When snake venom is injected into a lamb or sheep, the animal will create antibodies to fight the poison.

When the sheep is bitten by a poisonous snake, it will have difficulty swallowing, the tongue will protrude from the mouth, and the animal will dribble saliva. Often the animals will be unable to stand after he expels his stomach contents through his nose. After remaining motionless for a period of time, the sheep will regain consciousness.

The sheep’s stomach contains a special enzyme found in the stomach that breaks down the venom.

Celebrating Easter with Teens and Young Adults

Easter with teens and young adults doesn't have to be a head-scratcher. By adapting your celebrations to include more mature, interactive activities, you'll keep the spirit of Easter alive and hopping. It's a beautiful time to celebrate growth, renewal, and family bonds. So, let's embrace this Easter with open hearts and a basketful of new traditions that your family will love for years to come.Easter’s hopping around the corner again, and it’s a fantastic time for fun, reflection, and family bonding. But as our little chicks grow into big birds, you might wonder how to keep the Easter magic alive. Fear not! Celebrating Easter with teens and young adults can be just as joyful and meaningful, with a sprinkle of creativity.

Easter Activities for Teens and Young Adults

Gone are the days of simple egg hunts (or are they?). Here’s how you can elevate your Easter activities:

  • Epic Egg Challenge: Think outside the basket with a high-stakes egg hunt. Hide clues leading to a grand prize, or make it a digital scavenger hunt with QR codes!
  • DIY Decoration Station: Set up a craft area for making sophisticated Easter decorations. Think egg painting with a twist, using glow-in-the-dark paints or creating emoji eggs.
  • Cook-Off Competition: Whip up a storm with an Easter-themed cook-off. Who can make the best Easter brunch dish or the most creative chocolate treat?

Incorporating Tradition with a Twist

Keep the traditions alive but with a twist that appeals to older kids:

  • Sunrise Service or Reflection: Attend a service together or have a moment of reflection at home, discussing its significance in a way that resonates with them.
  • Basket Building for Others: Instead of receiving, switch it up! Prepare Easter baskets for community members or a local charity, focusing on giving back.

Creating Lasting Memories

The goal is to spend quality time together, creating memories that everyone will cherish. Capture these moments with a family photo shoot in your Easter best or create a video diary of the day’s activities. It’s about making each Easter memorable and special, no matter their age.

Easter with Teens and Young Adults

Easter with teens and young adults doesn’t have to be a head-scratcher. Special Replay: Easter Celebrations On The Cheap

Easter Celebration On The CheapEaster Celebrations On The Cheap

Easter celebration on the cheap includes fun and easy ideas. Celebrating Easter on the cheap doesn’t mean skimping on our favorite time of the year, it means celebrating in style and saving money along the way.

Remember, it’s about Jesus not the candy! Remind your children about the true meaning of Easter which is the Ressurection of our Lord. This is what you are celebrating. Let’s review some fun, cheap activities  you can plan this Easter!

  • Potluck:

    • Ask family to bring a side
    • Delegate ice or drinks
    • Baked ham goes far and is a favorite
    • Little kids love chicken fingers
    • Cold salads – make ahead.
  • Reuse and Repurpose – Eggs:

    • Those plastic eggs should be saved each year
    • Fill with coins instead of candy – redeemable in the store (see below)
    • Use as decorations
    • Have little ones hunt for specific colors, or count how many they collect
  •  Easter Store – order online or dollar store (Explain easter egg hunt Gerwitz style):

    • Shop sales, for everything.
    • Candy bars, candy kisses, everything is a mini.
    • I look for candles at odd times, discounts on decorations after the holiday, etc.
    • Store under the bed in plastic bins or farm out to a family member with more storage space
    • Less is more. I like minimalistic decorations. The more understated the better. Fresh flowers with outside greenery is wonderful.
  •  Make Your Own:

    • Create your own dips or salads
    • Rolls are very cheap, easy and fun to make. Kids love to help.
    • We love chocolate. Many of our treats are chocolate based such as trays of brownies and dipped strawberries (hint: I use 2 cups of chocolate chips with a spoonful of unflavored coconut oil, helps it to harden – this is so much cheaper than buying them!), make a big cookie – use disposable (can be reused) round pizza trays. Be sure to leave room for expanding dough.
    • Easy appetizers: fresh fruit with marshmallow dip, salsa, and chips, melted cheese poured over chips, cream cheese and packaged dressing for an easy dip (add mayo to liquify if needed.)
  • Decorations – Easter egg tree from kids “blessing others”

By performing these activities with your family, not only do you save some money, you teach your children the real meaning of Easter! Easter Traditions for your family Easter Traditions ~ Episode 464

What are those special Easter Traditions you share as a family? In this episode, with Felice Gerwitz and Crystal Niehoff, you will learn that many Christian families have a diversity of ideas on how to celebrate this holiest day of our Lord’s resurrection.

Welcome to Crystal Niehoff who along with her husband, Kevin, an Army Chaplain hosts the History For Christian Teens podcast on the Ultimate Homeschool Podcast Network. Be sure to subscribe to their wonderful show for teens (and tweens can listen in as well!).

What makes Easter special? Remembering the time of the life, death, and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ! This is a day of celebration for many families and it is more than cute Easter bunnies and chocolate. What makes Easter special in your family? If you have not given it thought think about this, and brainstorm with your family.

  • Some Easter Traditions:
  • Lent (celebrated by Felice’s family 40 days before Easter).
  • Resurrection Eggs – Tokens with the remembrance of Easter for children. Plastic eggs contain a symbol the depiction of something that represents Easter with a guidebook.
  • Good Friday – suffering, and death of Christ.
    • Felice’s family fasts from all meat on Fridays leading up to Easter. We also attend church on Thursday and Friday before Easter.
  • Sunrise Service. Crystal’s family attends (her husband officiates)
  • Easter Vigil – Saturday evening before Easter. Evening service with Scripture readings from Genesis to the Resurrection.
  • The best Resource is the Bible
    • Four Gospels have a different perspective
    • Older teens can read the Gospels and compare the Bible account
  • Thankfulness is not just for Thanksgiving – Easter is a great time to be thankful.
  • Easter is the eternal lesson for celebrating the gifts of the sacrificial love of Christ.

Easter Traditions do not need to take much money (See Easter on the Cheap, last week’s Vintage Homeschool Moms episode). The most important thing to remember is the time we spend with our family can not be replaced.

Why we need power for homeschooling

Jesus’ Resurrection

Appearing to Thomas, Peter, Road to Emmaus

Paul wants to know the power of His Resurrection

“Our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body” (Philippians 3:20-21)

It is a quest!

Paul says, “I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death” (Philippians 3:10)

Wait. Why is Paul mentioning resurrection power and suffering in the same passage?

We died with Christ and are raised with Him?

What does that look like?

Do you compare yourself to others and feel like you don’t measure up?

Do you sing songs about Jesus, yet not feel any kind of emotion?

Do you think it’s hard to live the Christian life?

One of my new favorite songs is by Cody Carnes, who is married to Kari Jobe by the way.

The cross has the final word
The cross has the final word
Sorrow may come in the darkest night
But the cross has the final word

There’s nothing stronger, nothing higher
There’s nothing greater than the name of Jesus
All the honor, all the power
All the glory to the name of Jesus

The cross has the final word
The cross has the final word
Evil may put up its strongest fight
But the cross has the final word

There’s nothing stronger, nothing higher
Nothing greater than the name of Jesus
All the honor, all the power
All the glory to the name of Jesus

The cross has the final word
The cross has the final word
The Savior has come with the morning light
The cross has the final word

What is that final word?

Well, let’s talk about the cross and how it impacts your life today.
