When I homeschooled my oldest daughter, the internet wasn’t really a big part of our lives. As I homeschooled down the line, the internet became a bigger and bigger aspect of daily life. Soon it was on our phones and even homeschool assignments at co-op involved the internet.

The internet felt like a big monster that was ready to gobble my children up.

Pornography & Predators

If the internet was a mall with 10,000 stores in it. 9,900 of those stores would be pornographic or sexual in nature. The internet sells sex. It is a haven and stomping ground for sexual predators and sex traffickers.

Researching? Remember Google has a Political Agenda

If anything the last election taught us it’s that Google, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter have a political agenda and use it aggressively.

If we want our children to hear both sides of a political or more issue, we need to show them where to look.

Conservative news sites

Teach Our Children & Teens

  • They need to remember that TV characters they watch often will impact their own character.
  • Screen time will limit their attention span.
  • Social media sites, online games, and almost everything online is designed to be addictive, especially pornography.
  • Predators and sex traffickers prowl online regularly for children, teens, and young adults. They lie about their identity all the time.
  • And, finally, if they are going to research online they need to remember that the search engine Google (and many others) actually have a political agenda that is contrary to the teachings of Scripture.
  • We live in a world where we must use the internet. We can use it safely, but we need to not just protect our children but share these truths and envision them to take part in protecting themselves.

Why we need power for homeschooling

Jesus’ Resurrection

Appearing to Thomas, Peter, Road to Emmaus

Paul wants to know the power of His Resurrection

“Our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body” (Philippians 3:20-21)

It is a quest!

Paul says, “I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death” (Philippians 3:10)

Wait. Why is Paul mentioning resurrection power and suffering in the same passage?

Enemy #1 in the secular world today is the Christian man. He is ridiculed, villainized, canceled. The world tries to change him into a feminized version that is impotent and ineffective.

The World’s Assault on Manhood

  • Be more sensitive, express your feelings
  • Don’t be so aggressive.
  • Don’t be competitive.
  • Be quiet like the girls.
  • Men are missing from families—boys grow up without a dad.
  • Schools/churches are filled with women teachers—again no role model.
  • Society is filled with harmful things to tempt men away from being honorable and holy—porn, anger, divorce, adultery, sexual immorality, drugs, drunkedness, smoking, criminal activity.

Destroy men and you have destroyed our culture.

What is Going On?

  • God loves families. He designed them.
  • Satan hates families. He is out to destroy them.
  • Men lead families so they are the target.
  • God loves local churches. He designed them.
  • Satan hates local churches. He is out to destroy them.
  • Men lead local churches so they are the target.

What Does Godly Manhood Look Like?

  • Leadership.
  • Protective.
  • Noble, honorable.
  • Courageous.
  • Provider
  • Integrity, Honesty.
  • Hard worker.

Exhorting, challenging, urging others to live sold out for God.

What Can Men Do?

  • Dig into the Word.
  • Pray.
  • Get together with other men to grow in the Lord.
  • Overcome strongholds in Christ.
  • Ignore the world.
  • Invest in your sons.
  • Mentor fatherless boys.
  • Be the man God’s called you to be.

What Can Women Do?

  • Stop trying to make boys act like girls and men act like women.
  • Affirm men as leaders. Follow their leadership.
  • Respect and appreciate men.
  • Pray for them to rise up and live like Jesus.
  • Don’t expect your husband to be your girlfriend.

What Can Parents Do?

  • Let boys hunt, fish, and play sports.
  • Give them opportunities to lead and protect.
  • Intentially raise them to be godly men according to God’s Word.
  • Require them to respect you.
  • Be alert for pornography—protect your household.

Show Notes

The Power of Advertising

  • Culture heavily influenced by Advertising
  • Advertising dictates how we decorate & celebrate holidays
  • New product promotional ads

How Advertising Works

  • Advertising appeals to both good and evil desires
  • Products will often be linked to a universally desired thing (happy marriage, mate, fast car, admiration, athletic skill)
  • Target certain segments of society
  • Most companies targeting homeschooling families are not homeschoolers themselves
  • Many homeschooling companies targeting Christian homeschooling families are not Christians.
  • Advertising isn’t always honest

How Jesus Responded to Advertising

  • Satan advertised the Kingdom of Darkness to Jesus (see Matthew 4)
  • Satan advertised food while Jesus was fasting and challenged him to test God
  • Finally, Satan offered Jesus wealth and power.
  • Jesus resisted using the Word of God as a weapon of Truth.

Our New Way of Life

  • Imitate Jesus in responding to advertising. Respond to lies with truth. Respond to insinuations with reality.
  • Don’t fall into the trap of having advertising dictate what and when you purchase.
  • Seek God about your needs and desires.
  • Work/talk together as a family to apply truth to advertising and felt needs.
