What Is Osmosis, Anyway?

Osmosis is the movement of water across a semi-permeable membrane from an area of low solute concentration to high concentration. In plants, specialized tubes called xylem pull water and nutrients from roots up to leaves. When you tint that water with food coloring, the journey becomes a color-popping object lesson your kids will never forget.
