In this episode, Director of True North Homeschool Academy, Lisa Nehring talks with Ethan Nehring, who teaches Latin, History and Writing about the difference between socialism and capitalism and why capitalism is a more Christian system than socialism.

Good government provides freedom, equity and justice.

Capitalism has to do with quality and work. Hard work results in better results. Nothing keeps a person from leaving the system.

Main flaw is deception related to supply and demand. Discernment and honesty are super important to making the system work well. Allows for accountability and responsibility. Assumes equality of opportunity, equitable justice and enforces justices.

 

Socialism has to do with equity; results oriented. You are not supposed to get ahead. Results of work are redistributed so that it is “even.” Kills motivation. It is unjust reward; theft. Prone to theft and corruption as the “overseeres” usually the government are prone to corruptions. Robs humans of responsibility and free will.

Why is Capitalism more Christian is an important topic for young Americans to wrestle with!

  4. Pray
  5. Submit to your pastors.

Habits of the Heart by Sullivan, Bellah, Madsen

Chronicles the the shift in the 1970’s to postmodernism and political correctness, which has lead to the socially predatory rhetoric of critical race theory and the language of intersectionality.

The 80’s and 90’s synthetic values took over the Media and the educational academies.

Defintions

  • Postmodernism –doesn’t accept truth claims. It is time bound and doesn’t recognize timeless truths. This is the beginning of tyrannical language cloaked in victimization.
  • Axiomatic Truths – basic starting places-“Properly basic;” truth claims;; Ethical economy.
  • Critical Theory- power dynamics regarding race, sex, culture, etc. based on relative power dynamics; who has power and who doesn’t.

“There are two sides to every argument but one side to facts.”

Relationships are more complicated when cultures are breaking down. Culture provides a common frame of reference that makes meaning and communication easier and more straightforward.

What is causing Polarization?

Definitions

  • Authentic Values- genuine and trustworthy- it is what it is. Our design and purpose as humans.
  • Synthetic Values- made by humans by adding or removing substances.
  • Metaphysics- provides the basis for understanding what is true, good, beautiful, rational and just. It is the basis for understanding our understanding; the framework.
  • Religion- how we engage with God
  • Natural Law- transcends individual, culture, gender or race.

Examples of Synthetic Values – certain values are inverted above others.

  • Communism
  • State Mandated Socialism

  • Facism
  • True Racism
  • Transhumanism
  • Atheistic Capitalism

You can be an authentic person with synthetic values.

Being True to yourself is not the same as being True, trustworthy or honest. Telling my own “truth” is about perception and opinion. It is not necessarily fact based.

  • Natural Law – a body of unchanging moral principles regarded as a basis for all human conduct.
  • Synthetic Law – a substance that is formulated or manufactured.
  • Polarization – a sharp division of a population or groups, into opposing factions.
  • Multiculturalism– the presence of, or support for the presence of, several distinct cultural or ethnic groups within a society.
  • Political Correctness – Political correctness is a term used to describe language, policies, or measures that are intended to avoid offense or disadvantage to members of particular groups in society.
  • Risky Shift –Risky shift occurs when people change their decisions or opinions to become more extreme and risky when acting as part of a group, compared with acting individually; this is one form of the phenomenon known as group polarization.

I only vote pro-life and here’s why.

How a candidate deals with the abortion issue tells me about his moral integrity and depth of leadership.

Abortion Is

  • Morally wrong
  • The Taking of an Innocent Human Life
  • A Message to All People that they are not inherently valuable

A Nation That Kills the Innocent Will Suffer

A nation that kills the innocent will not go unpunished.

There is bad fruit that follows abortion: infanticide, euthanasia, cancel culture, rioting, looting, murder.

Turns morals upside-down

Who Gives our Civil Rights?

God, not government

Who Protects Rights?

Government is called to protect the rights God has given. Those rights don’t change because the government changes his mind.

  • Free speech
  • Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness
  • Right to bear arms
  • Trial by jury

Rights of Unborn Human Beings

Children in the womb have rights before the Lord. How is abortion considered a right when it takes a life?

Abortion Harms Women

We talk so much about empowering women, women who have abortions suffer from incredible emotional pain.

Abortion Damages Relationships

“How could you kill my child?”

“How could you want to kill your child?”

Should we let our child live or die? If you would kills your baby, am I safe with you? If you want me to kill our baby, am I safe with you?

Abortion takes the security out of relationships.

Abortion Avoids Responsibility

One thing that we face in our nation is the socialist/communist agenda that wants to destroy the family. But does it really start with socialism and communism?

The family is God’s idea. From the time of creation, satan has tried to destroy the family.

When we move out of God’s created order (men becoming providers, marrying women, having a family, staying married for life), we create a bunch of people enjoying forbidden fruit without taking any responsibility. You can see the quality of adults our culture of promiscuity is producing.

Abortion Harms the National Conscious

Abortion skews our moral compass. We instinctively know abortion is wrong, but folks deceive themselves into acting like abortion is okay.

There is already talk of legalized pedophilia. When we degrade ourselves, the degradation moves forward like an avalanche.

Abortion Devalues Life for All Citizens

People are valuable because they are made in the image of God. When a person can be killed arbitrarily, it sends a message to all that they have no value.

Candidate’s Moral Integrity

Do you trust a politician that does not do anything in his or her power to protect the innocent?

Candidate’s Leadership

Is your candidate wanting to enjoy political power or lead with moral integrity (do the right thing!)

How do I Teach Politics to My Kids?

Politics today | How do I teach my kids politics?Raising homeschooled teenagers in this current political climate is not fun, and that, my friends, is putting it mildly.

I’m frustrated. No, wait. I’m angry! Just think of all the years, I have spent as a parent raising children to love the Lord, do what is right, play fair, share, compromise, and think of others.

I teach my children to think, to form opinions that are sound. If they disagree, they can state these politely and without malice. It is the art of rhetoric and argumentation that is based upon evidence whenever possible. I work at modeling character qualities, not always successfully, but I try, because I know that character is caught more so than it is taught.

And what does the government do? It undermines my parental authority because I care. I care about my rights as a citizen… and my children have watched and listened as I’ve taught them how I feel about the following:

  1. The new health care plan.
  2. The raising of the debt ceiling only to hand a future generation the bill.
  3. Non-compromising politicians on both sides who use well-orchestrated press releases, and  buzzwords that incur the wrath of my remote control to change the channel.
  4. The disregard for many of the articles of the Constitution that leaves me stunned.
  5. The repayment of a fallen soldier’s loyalty with total disrespect of memorials and funds.

Who is to blame? We are.

As we waste our time blaming sides, our rights are being stripped away one by one, and my children see this, clearly. They ask: what can we do?

My parents were Italian immigrants who fled to this country because of Mussolini; they came to the United States of America, because it was the Land of the Free. My parents insisted I speak English and were happy they became American citizens. They taught my brothers and me that education was important and entrepreneurship was the key. They owned a bakery, ran a dress shop in the basement. My father finished the dresses in our home, for those who did not want to buy off-the-rack clothes. My parents  later purchased and ran a very successful restaurant. We lived many places: New York, outside of Ontario, Canada, and in Winter Haven, Florida. My parents were not afraid of hard work; they taught me that very well. They taught me that freedom was won with integrity and honor – and most of all we must be informed.

So can you imagine my chagrin when I heard my smart, beautiful, happy go-lucky, softball-playing teenage daughter told me, “I just don’t care anymore, Mom. I’m tired of being angry.”

What!

This was her response to an invitation to watch the news with me, and, it was a conservative news station. She doesn’t care? How did that happen? Didn’t I teach her better? Didn’t my carefully-selected history and government classes with God as the focus and the Constitution as a pillar show her time and time again that if you don’t care your rights will truly be stripped?

Yes, I did teach her better, and I know her response was a defense mechanism because she was weary of hearing the bickering on T.V., and so am I! As a Christian I know my hope is in God, not politicians, but I will not stand idly by. I will be praying. Every single one of those politicians has my prayers, because my God is a righteous one and His ways are not mine. I continue to hope for my children and for my country, the Land of the Free.
