When Your Plan is Not in the Plan – Part 2: The Blending of Lives

A Production of the Ultimate Homeschool Podcast Network.

Sharing is caring!

Last week, Kari Oakley Miller shared her story of loss and how it forced her to find a new plan for her family.Last week, Kari Oakley Miller shared her story of loss and how it forced her to find a new plan for her family. This week, Kari is back to share the rest of her story. After the death of her husband, Kari remained single for ten years. Fear of the unknown and concern for her five children kept her from even entertaining the idea of dating and remarrying. However, God had a different plan.

About five years ago, Kari was introduced to Andrew Miller, a widower with four children. As the relationship progressed, Kari was once again faced with the possibility of a new life plan. Instead of being a single parent of five kids, she was about to embark on a new journey, a blended family with nine children total. As you can imagine, this is a big decision. Not only will she have to adjust to married life and being a wife again, she will now have to figure out how to blend completely different families and lifestyles. I am so thankful for Kari’s willingness to be vulnerable and share the highs and lows of a new love and a new family. I know Kari’s honesty will move you to think about your own family, blended or not.

If you know someone who is considering blending families, please encourage them to take a listen to this podcast. As Kari and I say in the podcast, we hope that you never have to reconsider your original plan. However, if you do we hope you will remember the encouraging words here. God is faithful and He is for you.

Hugs.

  1. I love your authenticity and real conversation. I’ve not experienced this particular story but I appreciate your talking about hard things. Our hard thing “right now” is helping our adult aging parents while having little kids and teens at home and homeschooling. One parent has passed and another is really fading now.
