3 Tips to Develop a Wholehearted Business Mindset

Developing a mindset begins way before you get to your mind! Listen in as we talk about 3 tips you can use today to develop a wholehearted business mindset. Visit MommyJammiesNight.com to get your free printable mentioned in this podcast.

When you find yourself without direction,  it helps to step back and evaluate your priorities. This starts with establishing your values.

Establishing values begins with a Jesus view of wholeheartedness. Wholeheartedness is first and foremost a heart matter. Where is your heart?

Tip #1

Take time to establish your values. Your values guide your priorities. Seek God’s kingdom in all things.

Tip #2

Live and give grace. Don’t buy into “Girl, wash your face.” Start with “Jesus, wash my heart.”

Tip #3

Put aside grumbling, comparison, and destination confusion. Happiness isn’t a place, it’s internal first. Let Jesus be your peace.

Action Item:

Take 30 minutes to evaluate your values in the four broader areas of your life; spiritual, personal, professional, and health.  Use the free printable as a helpful guide.  _Putting Christ first takes care of everything else

Spiritual– see Matthew 4:4. How’s your spiritual life?

Personal – see Ephesians 4:2 & 3. What do your personal relationships look like right now?

Health –  see 1 Corinthians 6: 19 & 20. In what ways do you need to honor your body?

Professional–  see Psalm 15:1-5. How do you show up in your business?

Entrepreneurship and College – MBFLP 210

College can be useful for entrepreneurs too

Is your son or daughter an entrepreneur at heart? Are you or they, either one, debating whether college is even worthwhile for a young person aiming at their own business?  This episode, we talk with our son Samuel Adams Young, who’s enrolled in an innovative business program at his college – one that teaches the hands-on skills needed to succeed as an entrepreneur!

College can be useful to entrepreneurs too

Tech Giants Not Withstanding …

We have friends who are skeptical about the need for college experience to succeed in life. After all, they say, neither Bill Gates (founder of Microsoft), Steve Jobs (visionary CEO of Apple), Mark Zuckerberg (creator of Facebook), nor Ted Turner (founder of CNN and other networks) finished college.

Fair enough. At the same time, the exceptions don’t prove a rule – and you can’t deny that billionaires in Silicon Valley or cable TV are not your average neighborhood business owner.

It’s also true that some career fields (particularly in technology) are changing so rapidly that a hands-on apprenticeship is nearly as useful as a four-year degree for starting a life-long career. (Listen to our interview with Ken Auer of Role Model Software, a prime example!)

Yet with all the exceptions and hedges and provisions in place, there are still good reasons a budding entrepreneur might consider going to a four-year degree program.  This episode, we’re talking with our son Samuel, who is a rising star in an innovative program to equip young business people with tools they can use to kick start their own companies.

This program was funded by the late Ralph Ketner, co-founder of one of the fastest-growing grocery chains in America, Food Lion. In establishing the Center for Entrepreneurship and Experiential Development, Ketner told the college that true entrepreneurship is hands-on, not just theoretical classroom work, and so the goal of the college is to help students actually create viable, money-making businesses from their ideas. Until his death in 2016 at the age of 95, Ketner maintained an office at the college and frequently counseled students from his long career of growing business from the ground up.

Entrepreneurship and Homeschooling – Rhea Perry

Entrepreneurship and Homeschooling - Rhea PerrySome children are better suited for a path in entrepreneurship that does not necessarily require a college degree. On today’s show, Rhea Perry (speaker at our 2016 and 2017 Lifeschooling Conferences) shares the wisdom she applied in homeschooling her son, who became a millionaire entrepreneur by early adulthood and brought his father home from corporate America.

Rhea (pronounced Ray) Perry has educated 7 children since 1987. As a stay-at-home mom, her main goal in life is to encourage women to become the best homemakers they can be. She believes that includes helping their children discover their gifts and find their calling in life as early as possible. The family should also support the children until they enter their own personal journey on the road to financial security.

Yet how can we do that when we haven’t been educated or trained? We find ourselves learning as we are doing it with them. Sometimes we feel like the burden is too heavy. That’s why Rhea created a community called Educating for Success so those on this journey can encourage each other and share secrets along the way.

Whether you desire to have a job or a home business for your children or yourself, the greatest country that has ever existed economically – America – offers unlimited opportunities, especially since the Internet has changed the rules for entrepreneurship.

So many mothers struggle with a fear of failure, but how can we fail when God is for us and desires to help each of us fulfill the purpose He put us here to achieve? (Bio taken from http://www.educatingforsuccess.com/public/department13.cfm.)

I have personally known Rhea and been involved with her Protege entrepreneurship program for the past five or six years. Our family has made friends and business connections with people from all over the country who “do school” similar to the way we do it, with an emphasis on our children’s individual gifts and how they can be applied to entrepreneurship. And my own children are on their way to having successful businesses.

Here are the questions we ask Rhea on today’s show:

  • We talked to your friend Dr. Mary Hood on our last episode about the early days of homeschooling. How have you seen homeschooling change over the years since you started?
  • How has the internet, with so many entrepreneurial opportunities, potentially changed the way we educate our children?
  • With the rise of the internet, there are more opportunities than ever for entrepreneurs to make money. However, the internet has also impacted the homeschooling community. Many support groups are shutting down and the real life community aspect seems to be dying. What are your thoughts on that?
  • Tell us where we can go to find out more information about Educating for Success and the entrepreneur course you offer?

You can hear more from Rhea by purchasing the Lifeschooling Conference video sets from our website and visiting her site at www.EducatingforSuccess.com.

Changes in the economy and the culture are making it more challenging to maintain a Christian witness in the business world. It’s more and more crucial that we help our children develop an entrepreneurial business sense so they’re not so bound to the corporate lifestyle.
